Symphony Sun ready to shine

April 29 - The 10,500 dwt multipurpose vessel, Symphony Sun, has been launched at the Ferus Smit shipyard in Leer, Germany.

Symphony Sun, which is being delivered to Dutch company Symphony Shipping, is the fourth in a series of six multipurpose newbuild ships under construction at the German shipyard.

The Ecobox design vessels measure 122.5 m long and feature two 85-tonne capacity cranes, as well as a large loading floor area for project cargoes and a movable tweendeck.

Furthermore, the ship's deckhouse has been placed at the front of the vessel, which is intended to better protect the deck cargo and enable the loading of out-of-gauge cargoes over the stern.

Initially intended for chartering to Danish shipping line Nordana, the vessels are now being chartered out to Forest Wave Navigation, which was reported by HLPFI on April 5.

Symphony also has two DP2 multipurpose vessels under construction at the Ferus Smit shipyard - Symphony Performer and Symphony Provider - which are scheduled to go into service in December 2016 and April 2017 respectively.
