Terex gives Versailles a lift

August 28 - DUFOUR Transport Handling has used a Terex Superlift 3800 crawler crane to erect a footbridge at the Versailles Chantiers train station in France.

Installing the metal footbridge over the tracks meant that the Versailles station had to be temporarily closed. "For one weekend, the station was completely closed and, during lifting operations, train traffic was also fully stopped from Paris to the south of France, which rarely occurs," said Nicolas Devianne of DUFOUR.

The Terex Superlift 3800 lattice boom crawler crane was transported in components from a project site in Germany to the Versailles Chantiers station using 37 trucks.

With the help of a 250-tonne capacity Terex AC 250 all terrain crane, the Superlift crane was assembled at the station. The superlift tray and crawler carrier were loaded with 225 tonnes and 50 tonnes of counterweight respectively.

To lift the two metal bridge components - weighing 80 and 111 tonnes respectively - into place, the crane also required 90 m of main boom. The 80-tonne unit was lifted first at a 76 m radius, while the 111-tonne piece was hoisted into place at a 51 m radius.
