Weiland lifts with Liebherr

German crane contractor Weiland has used its Liebherr LTM 1450-8.1 to lift and remove a smaller five-axle mobile crane from the Heidingsfeld viaduct in Würzburg.

As a result of the demolition work at the viaduct on the A3 motorway, there was no longer a route for five-axle LTM 1250-5.1 to be driven off the site. Therefore, Weiland utilised its 450-tonne capacity LTM 1450-8.1 to hoist the smaller mobile crane off the abutment.

Weighing approximately 60 tonnes, the smaller crane was attached to outriggers and lowered 20 m.

The LTM 1450-8.1 mobile crane was set up with 134 tonnes of ballast at a radius of 18 m.

Weiland also used a Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane for the demolition work on the 660 m motorway bridge. The crane lifted strand jacks and positioned them onto unfinished sections of the structure. The strand jacks were then used to lower road segments, some of which weighed over 2,000 tonnes.

The new viaduct near Würzburg is part of a larger infrastructure project, which will widen the A3 between Aschaffenburg and Würzburg into a six-lane motorway.
