Digging & Rigging goes for Faymonville

November 21 - Maryland, USA-headquartered Digging & Rigging has acquired 13 axle lines of G-SL ModulMAX and PowerMAX trailers, manufactured by Faymonville.

"The addition of the ModulMAX to our fleet is going to give us a huge edge in the oversize load market," said Jim Gregory, president of Digging & Rigging.

The trailers have already been mobilised on their first assignments. Digging & Rigging used a nine axle ModulMAX combination plus an extra-low flatbed trailer to transport a power generator.

The unit weighed 95.3 tonnes and measured 3.07 m x 1.6 m x 2.1 m. It was initially shipped from Wisconsin to Virginia by rail.

Digging & Rigging transhipped the generator from the railcar to the ModulMAX combination utilising its Liebherr LTM 1250-6.1 crane. The generator was then moved 1.2 miles (1.9 km) to a substation before being offloaded. The trailer combination was pulled to the project site using a four axle Kenworth tractor. In total, the combination had a gross weight of 163.3 tonnes and an overall length of 14.6 m.

"The ModulMAX made easy work of some tight turns at the load site and at the substation. The low deck height made it easy to clear several utility lines and traffic lights along the route," said Gregory.

In a second project, Digging & Rigging was tasked with transporting a 6.35 m long by 1.52 m wide dryer, weighing 79.4 tonnes, along the Maryland coast. It used ten G-SL ModulMAX axle lines, plus a PowerMAX APMC, in order to run the combination as a self-propelled unit.

"The trailer made easy work negotiating the dryer through the tight plant and into position for our Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 crane to offload and set in place", said Gregory.
