Hofmann Kran-Vermeitung has installed two bells, weighing 1 tonne and 13.5 tonnes, at Paderborn Cathedral in Germany.

The bells, the largest of which had a diameter of 2.7 m, arrived at the project site on a Nooteboom trailer from Hofmann’s fleet.

For the installation, Hofmann assembled a Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 in the cathedral square with a 42-m luffing jib and 90 tonnes of ballast.

The crane operator extended the telescopic boom to a length of 47 m to hoist the bells to a platform placed on the tower at a height of 32 m.

Once on the platform, the bells were pulled through an existing window into the belfry of the cathedral for final installation.

Hofmann, which is part of the Bracht Group, has a fleet of approximately 50 mobile cranes, with lifting capacities ranging from 7 tonnes to 750 tonnes; 70 semi-trailers; and 185 work platforms.
