The port of Sunderland in the UK has completed a resurfacing project covering almost two acres (0.8 ha) at its Endurance Park storage area.

The port acquired the area in 2013 and subsequent investments have resulted in improved storage facilities and logistic services, as well as further opportunities to grow in the offshore industry.

Matthew Hunt, port of Sunderland director, said: “The investment also means Greenwells Quay is now a perfect berth for project cargoes and the offshore market allowing our heavy lift crane to traverse the quay and lift straight to and from vessels and road transport [vehicles].

“The improved and strengthened storage facilities at Endurance Park are also ideal for all kinds of projects, particularly for the offshore market.”

The port claims that it has already secured a series of contracts with companies in the offshore renewables market.
