February 20 - The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) reported a 17 percent growth in container cargo for January, handling 301,105 teu.

The NWSA, comprising the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, saw strong full import and export volumes last month. At 128,892 teu, imports grew almost 19 percent compared to January 2016. Exports also recorded a strong month with 76,339 teu, a 17 percent increase. The total international teu volumes grew nearly 18 percent in January.

Several military shipments through the South Harbour helped breakbulk cargo increase by 8.4 percent to 14,502 tonnes. Total cargo handled for January rose to 2,296,494 tonnes, a year-on-year increase of 18.7 percent.
