February 4 - AAL has delivered the first shipment of project cargo for a multi-billion dollar expansion and deep-conversion project at Petroleos de Venezuela SA's (PDVSA) Puerto La Cruz refinery in eastern Venezuela.

The first consignment, which comprised 40,000 cu m of modular pipe racks and structural steel, was shipped from Nantong, China to the Venezuelan Port of Guanta on board the 31,000 dwt vessel AAL Brisbane.

"Puerto La Cruz is one of the largest oil refineries in the country, at about 190,000 bpd and a major refining hub for crude extracted in the states of Monagas and Anzoátegui," said general manager of AAL's tramp and projects division, Marc Willim.

This first shipment was part of a larger agreement between AAL and the project's engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The second shipment has also been delivered, with additional monthly shipments to follow.
