May 5 - Berard Transportation mobilised 56 axle-lines of self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) to complete the movement of a 2,300-tonne barge in South Louisiana, USA.
The barge needed to be moved from its fabrication yard to the client's drydcok for launch. Soft ground required Berard to lay down steel plating to ensure the load was evenly distributed as it made its way through the shipyard.
The barge, which will be used to transport asphalt, measured 110 m long, 18m wide and 7 m tall. In order to move the load, the SPMTs were supplemented by two power pack units.
