October 20 - France Cargo International (FCI) has transported five Berthoud-manufactured Raptor self-propelled field sprayers from the south of France to Xiamen in China.

The agricultural machines, each of which weighed 45.4 tonnes and measured 8.6 m x 3.3 m x 4.5 m, were transported via road from France to the port of Antwerp, before being shipped to China.

FCI managing director Denis Mandil explained that the challenge was finding a vehicle that could accommodate the machines' 3 m wide wheels.

"FCI arranged for a low loader truck to be reinforced with metal joints on either side, in order to house the wide machines and cope with their weight," said Mandil.

The company also pre-arranged Customs formalities in France, which allowed for a quick loading of the units onto a conventional vessel bound for China.

France Cargo International has been a member of the Project Cargo Network (PCN) since February 2012.
