June 28 - Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) has started the transport of Statoil's topside and jacket for the Oseberg Vestflanken 2 unmanned wellhead platform, on board its semi-submersible crane vessel Hermod.

In February 2016, Statoil awarded Heerema the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), as well as the transport and installation of the platform.

The topside and jacket were constructed at Heerema Zwijndrecht, one of Heerema Fabrication Group's (HFG) production facilities, in the Netherlands. The 900-tonne topside measures 25 m x 23 m x 20 m, while the jacket weighs 4,400 tonnes and has a height of 138 m, and a footprint of 36 m x 36 m.

HMC is responsible for the transport from the construction facility and the installation of the platform at the Oseberg offshore location in the Norwegian part of the North Sea, approximately 130 km northwest of Bergen.

The Oseberg Vestflanken 2 unmanned wellhead platform is the first of three planned phases for developing the remaining reserves in the Oseberg area. Two existing subsea wells will be reused and the well stream will be routed to the Oseberg Field Centre via new pipeline, and will be remote controlled from the field centre, 8 km away.

According to HFG, the start of production at the wellhead platform is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018.
