February 22 - Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding International (HLPFI) magazine has strengthened its editorial proposition and scope with the appointment of highly experienced and award winning commercial vehicle journalist and editor, Peter Shakespeare.

Peter will support the team behind the leading international media presence for professionals involved in the logistics of over-dimensional and heavy cargoes as consulting editor. As part of his remit he will be responsible for developing the publication's coverage of the transport by road of abnormal and indivisible loads with a maximum authorised mass in excess of 50 tonnes.

Peter Shakespeare said: "HLPFI delivers essential information about the movement of over-dimensional and heavy cargoes across the whole range of transport modes. In terms of road transport, it has mainly focused on the land leg of super heavy lifts. But globally there is a huge heavy haulage industry involved in the movement of abnormal loads by road, ranging from large construction plant to boats, aircraft and rail vehicles. This sector lacks a dedicated international media presence and I am delighted to have been asked by HLPFI to help it address this."

Peter continued: "I cut my teeth as a commercial vehicle journalist on the highly-respected TRUCK magazine before editing the UK's Road Haulage Association's Roadway magazine for 10 years. I have held a HGV Class One for over 17 years and still drive HGVs on a regular basis. Heavy haulage is a very specialist discipline. Globally it is subject to a complex web of legislation and this: plus, the levels of investment in equipment and operations made by the truck and trailer manufacturers, the support service providers and operators themselves, is often overlooked. I will be working with the team at HLPFI to develop its coverage of the international heavy haulage industry, broadening the publication's scope and reach, giving the key players in this important sector a credible platform to communicate news, views and information."

Ian Matheson, editor of HLPFI adds: "Starting with the May/June edition, HLPFI will include a dedicated heavy haulage focus in every edition and from March 1, will publish regular weekly news bulletins about heavy haulage on its website and in its e-newsletters. Over the next few months the magazine will develop and launch a dedicated supplemental publication aimed at the specialist road transport sector. With his significant experience, Peter is perfect to lead the development and expand HLPFI's coverage of this sector."
