September 10 - Istanbul-based project forwarder Kita Logistics has been involved in significant movements this year in support of alternative energy production in Turkey.

One project has been the delivery of a consignment consisting of 14 units for a 35 MW wind power plant involving GE 2.5 MW wind turbines. The items were moved from Germany and other parts of Europe into Iskenderun, Turkey by land and sea.

The overall project volume was more than 42,000 cu m and all cargo was delivered without damage to the client.

The most difficult part of the project was to tackle the extreme cold weather conditions in Europe, the worst in the last 50 years, especially during the February and March; 50 m blades had to be moved over 500 km distances by land in these challenging circumstances,

Four ships were utilised and more than 20 trucks were required to move the cargo to the Turkish jobsite.

Kita has more than a decade of experience in delivering components for wind turbine developments, having handled its first consignment in 1999. Since then, the project cargo forwarder has developed a significant reputation for such activities.
