January 2 - During the first quarter of 2013, the charter business within the Lufthansa Cargo Group will be reorganised, with the standalone Lufthansa Cargo Charter operation being incorporated into Lufthansa Cargo.
A statement by the airline group said that once the realignment is complete, it will remain active as a service provider in the charter market and offer a broad portfolio of charter solutions.
Prior to realignment, the Lufthansa Cargo Charter Agency will remain the contact partner for charter solutions, as it has been since 2001.
HLPFI understands that LH Cargo Charter's senior management will continue to work on the charter business, whilst roles for other staff will be found within the Lufthansa Group.
Commentators across the aircargo broker community have long suggested that a broker within an airline is inevitably tied to that airline's aircraft, although LH Cargo Charter has always denied that this has been the case.
2012 was a difficult year for the air charter market. Overcapacity in the scheduled sector has intensified competition.
