May 8 - Queensland stevedoring company Northern Stevedoring Services (NSS) has acquired equipment hire company S. Colborne Equipment Hire. NSS has sourced equipment from S. Colborne for over a decade.

NSS has key activities in project cargo loading and unloading as well as operating a quarantine-approved washby at its Townsville storage and distribution centre.

"S. Colborne Equipment Hire has been working with NSS for the past 10 years and we see the acquisition as being instrumental in providing a quality end-to-end stevedoring service to our clients," said Todd Emmert, NSS general manager.

NSS staff members David Price has been put in charge of S. Colborne and will oversee plans to grow the business from stevedoring right through to warehousing and delivery services for clients.

"By having total ownership of our mobile equipment fleet, the acquisition has the potential to help NSS realise savings, reduce down time and increase productivity," confirmed Emmert. "Our intention is to diversify the hire business into off-wharf opportunities."
