April 10 - The Port of Corpus Christi has approved an agreement with the Maritime Administration to develop the gateway's Nueces River Rail Yard (NRRY).

In June 2012, the US Department of Transportation awarded a USD10 million transportation investment generating economic recovery (TIGER) grant to the Port for construction of the rail yard. This week, Port of Corpus Christi commissioners approved how the grant will be deployed with the Maritime Administration - the TIGER grant's administrative agency.

When complete the NRRY will include an 8,000 ft (2,438.4 m) train rail siding and a four ladder track interchange yard totaling 15,400 track feet (4,694 m) - providing enough space for 335 rail cars.

The project will be advertised to bidders later this month. The total estimated cost of the project is expected to be USD18 million - USD8 million of which the Port will contribute.
