WVFA project inaugurated

The port of Vancouver, USA, has inaugurated its USD251 million West Vancouver Freight Access (WVFA) rail project.

The port says the project will improve rail movement on the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad mainlines. It includes creating a new rail entrance into the port, expanding the port’s rail corridor, and the addition of a loop track at the port’s Terminal 5.

These investments enhance connections from the Pacific Northwest east to Chicago and Houston, and north to south from Canada to Mexico. In addition, the improvements will reduce delays to rail traffic by as much as 40 percent, and significantly increase the port’s capacity to handle railcars, it says.

“This project shows that the port of Vancouver USA and the region is open for business as WVFA improves freight mobility dramatically and opens Southwest Washington to more trade opportunities,” said Washington governor, Jay Inslee.
