November 18 - Marine and Towage Services Group (MTS) has worked together with Robert Wynn & Sons to deliver nine transformers for the UK's Western Link project.

The nine transformers were delivered in three separate shipments from the Port of Rotterdam to the site of the onshore converter station in Hunterston on the west coast of Scotland. The largest of the transformers weighed in at 325 tonnes, with the total consignment weighing over 2,500 tonnes.

MTS' tug MTS Vengeance was used to tow the transformers on Robert Wynn's barge Terra Marique - which is capable of transporting loads weighing up to 1,350 tonnes - to the Scottish site via the south coast of the UK.

"A huge nationally significant infrastructure project such as Western Link relies heavily on large, pre-manufactured components," said MTS managing director Jon Parslow.

"The value of an asset such as a transformer to a subsea cabling project of this nature cannot be understated, since it forms an essential part of the onshore transmission infrastructure required to transfer power to and from the grid."

This project forms part of a longer-term contract, which will see MTS Vengeance continue to support Terra Marique in a number of further charters relating to power generation projects in the UK and northern France.
