January 22 - In 2012 JSC Sea Port of Saint Petersburg recorded a cargo turnover of 8.7 million tons (7.89 million tonnes), an 18 percent year-on-year improvement over 2011.

Handling of general cargoes increased by 6 percent to 6.9 million tons (6.3 million tonnes). One million tons (907,185 tonnes) of ro-ro freight was handled at the port. The amount of dry bulk cargo handled in 2012 increased two-fold to 1.8 million tons (1.63 million tonnes) over 2011 levels.

The total volume of export cargo for the trading period increased by 15 percent to 6.6 million tons (5.98 million tonnes). Import volumes grew 24 percent to 2.1 million tonnes (1.9 million tonnes).

JSC Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg commented that the positive growth is a result of optimisation of technology, a modernisation of logistics systems and improved communication with its customers.
