July 29 - Mammoet has coordinated the unloading of the two largest units - a wash tower and reactor - for Sasol's ethane cracker and derivatives project in Louisiana, USA.

The reactor, which weighed in at 3.04 million lb (1,378 tonnes), and the wash tower, which measured 320 ft (97.5 m) high, were shipped into Lake Charles on board Jumbo's heavy lift ship Jumbo Kinetic.

The units were lifted onto self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) and secured on deck barges, before being towed 3 miles (4.8 km) downriver to the Westlake dock, where they were rolled off the barge.

The oversize units will be staged at the dock until March 2017, when Mammoet will transport the cargoes to the project site and install them using its 3,600-tonne capacity MSG-80 ring crane.

With an expected annual production capacity of 1.5 million tonnes of ethylene, the new ethane cracker facility is scheduled for commissioning in 2018.
