December 14 - The Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) will host its annual Specialized Transportation Symposium between March 3-5, 2010, at the Intercontinental Dallas, Addison, Texas.

Dallas was home to the first of these annual symposiums, then known as the Oversize/Overweight Transportation Symposium, in March 1988. The event is expected to attract more than 350 specialised carriers, state and federal government officials, researchers, manufacturers and suppliers.

Some attendees will be arriving early for meetings on March 2 of the Pilot Car Task Force. Also before the opening session on March 3, SC&RA's Truck Permit Policy Committee and Transportation Safety Committee will meet.

Continuing a trend established during the inaugural symposium, an anticipated highlight of the symposium is a candid appraisal by state transportation officials concerning over-dimensional transport's critical issues from coast to coast.

Panelists will be the Chairs of the regional associations of highway transportation officials: Carol Davis, Texas DOT (WASHTO); Corina Harmless, Indiana DOT (MVC); and Tommy Thames, Mississippi DOT (SASHTO). Also invited is Joe Lee-Civalier, New York, representing NASTO.

Among the issues they are expected to addressed this year are updates on the permit process, recent steps toward greater uniformity, and infrastructure constraints versus cargo movement demands.

Other featured speakers will include high-ranking representatives from the American Highway Users Alliance, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, NBIS Construction & Transport Insurance Services, the Texas Transportation Institute, and SC&RA member companies specializing in oversize/overweight transport.
