May 12 - Off Malta, Fairstar's semi-submersible heavy transport vessel Fjell has successfully completed a series of tests and manoeuvres required by classification society, DNV prior to achieving Class approval.

Willem Out, managing director Fleet, who attended the voyage along with inspectors from DNV, said: "We are extremely satisfied with the performance of the Fjell at sea. The ship is considerably faster than its sister ship Fjord. She is responsive, safe and a pleasure to operate. Everyone on board was impressed with the vessel. All of the hard work over the last few months by our team in Malta has paid off."

Later this week, the Fjell is scheduled to perform its submersion test and then is expected to receive the necessary certifications from both DNV and the Dutch Flag State enabling it to set sail from Malta.

The Fjell is one of two semi-submersible heavy transport ships built for Fairstar by Malta Shipyards. The Fjord entered service last year.
