Blue Water brings the wind

December 4 - Blue Water Shipping, on behalf of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, has supplied transport and logistics services for the 75 MW Sidrap wind farm in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

"Our part of the project included six shipments consisting of blades, hubs and nacelles for the 30 turbines, as well as general cargo," explained Sebastian Stackelies, project manager at Blue Water Singapore. According to Stackelies, the heaviest component was a nacelle weighing 107 tons (97 tonnes).

The blades were loaded in Qinhuangdao in China, while the nacelles, hubs and general cargo were transported from Bilbao, Spain. The components were discharged at the Port of Pare Pare, Indonesia.

The project, which began in July, was carried out by Blue Water's offices in Esbjerg, China and Singapore.

According to Blue Water, the Sidrap wind farm will be Indonesia's first utility-scale wind farm and is scheduled to be producing power to the south Sulawesi PLN grid in late 2017.
