July 31 - SOHAR Port and Freezone has been declared the most important link in Oman's commercial logistics industry by its chief executive officer, Jamal Aziz.
The deep sea port and freezone has just released its mid-year review and Aziz observed: "In just six months we have expanded almost every aspect of our operations, including the USD130 million relocation and expansion of the Oman International Container Terminal and a USD2.5 million investment to connect infrastructure that has cut turnaround times at Oiltanking Odfjell's oil and gas storage facilities."
He added that cargo volumes are growing at a rate more than 50 million tonnes per year. "We are also seeing growth in industries beyond those that were originally set up when SOHAR was launched as a joint venture with the Port of Rotterdam back in 2002," Mr. Aziz explained.
The gateway also revealed plans to develop a dedicated agricultural terminal, air and rail links, and a national food reserve.
