July 2 - Trier-based Steil Kranarbeiten GmbH & Co used its recently acquired Terex Superlift 3800 crawler crane, the newest member of the Terex Cranes family, to erect an Enercon E101 turbine at the G

Steil Kranarbeiten required a total of 30 trucks, including four heavy goods vehicles, to transport the Superlift 3800 crawler crane, which included a 138 m boom and over 305 tonnes of counterweight.
As this was Steil's first jobsite with the Terex Superlift 3800 crawler crane, three Terex team members provided on-site support and training to the Steil team. 
When assembling the boom, the team deployed the Terex fall protection system, which enabled the personnel to work at height while being protected by lanyards to complete the setup process safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively in just two days.
During the erection of the turbine; the two tower sections, weighing 56 and 58 tonnes respectively, were lifted first, followed by the nacelle: the heaviest item at 67 tonnes, which had to be lifted to 135 metres. Finally the three rotor blades were mounted individually - the biggest challenge in any wind turbine erection project.
Steil project manager and crane operator René Perlich said: "The advantages of the Superlift 3800 can mostly be seen in the significantly reduced weights of its individual components and in the fact that you need up to 100 tonnes less counterweight when setting up the long boom system. The new Terex crane's design makes assembly incredibly easy and helped speed up the setup process."
