This week's round up of news from the world of heavy lift and project forwarding.

According to reports in the financial press this week, Canadian Pacific Railway has approached fellow railroad company, CSX to propose a merger that would create a company worth more than USD60 billion.

A potential tie-up would unite two of the biggest railroad operators in North America at a time when rail traffic in booming, driven predominantly by a soaring energy market.

Canadian Pacific, which has a market value of about USD32.5 billion, has a network stretching across Canada and into the United States. USD30 billion valued CSX controls lines throughout the Eastern United States. With minimal geographic overlap, the two companies would have a huge combined footprint, if an accord can be met. Both companies were understandably tight-lipped.

NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers (NBPC) sponsors this week's Friday Flyer. Created via the merger of NYK-Hinode Line and NYK Global Bulk Corporation, NBPC combines one of the world's largest specialists in handy bulk carriers, with a specialist in the transport of a variety of heavy and OOG cargo.
