After almost two years in covered storage, the historic Bedford lifeboat has been relocated from the port of Tyne to the North East Maritime Trust’s yard in the UK, ahead of a restoration project.

In 2017, the port of Tyne joined forces with Barbour Foundation, JML, M I Dickson, South Tyneside Council, Ward Hadaway and Tyne Lifeboat Society to cover the cost of transporting the vessel to the port from Scotland.

Having stored the 133-year-old lifeboat for two years, the port has once again joined the efforts to transport the boat, which measures 10 m in length, to the restoration yard in South Shields.
