July 26 - Freight volumes at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport rose by 6.7 percent year-on-year to around 512,613 tonnes in the first half of 2016.
The airport explained that this is the first time the half-million mark has been broken during any six-month period.
Two AN-124-100 freighter aircraft continue to be permanently based at Leipzig/Halle Airport as part of the strategic airlift interim solution (SALIS) project.
The airport also operates regular freight charter flights and a scheduled cargo service to Moscow, operated by AirBridgeCargo Airlines.
HLPFI reported in June (http://www.heavyliftpfi.com/news/chapman-and-fiege-fly-oog-to-uae.html) that an Antonov 225 had landed at Leipzig/Halle Airport, before being loaded with 153 tonnes of oversize oil and gas equipment destined for the UAE.
