Harvey soars into EMA role

East Midlands Airport (EMA) in the UK has appointed Steven Harvey as its vice president of cargo.

Harvey joins the airport from CargoLogic Management, which provides management and sales services to the Volga-Dnepr Group. His career in the airfreight industry spans nearly 30 years.

Commenting on Harvey’s appointment, Beth Brewster, EMA’s commercial and transformation director, said: “I am delighted that Steven is joining EMA at a time when we are planning for the longer term. Steven’s knowledge of the air cargo industry and, particularly his experience of working with airlines, will be invaluable as we shape our strategies for future growth.”

EMA added that it will soon unveil a new commercial strategy that will outline investments that it intends to make in response to future growth in demand for air cargo.

Investments at the airport already include the extension to its East Apron, which will allow up to four more aircraft to be parked at any one time. Also at the east side of the airport, UPS is pressing ahead with a GBP114 million (USD148.4 million) development that will double the size of its operation at the airport.

Despite challenging global market conditions, EMA is positive about its operation. The airport recently recorded its highest-ever monthly cargo volume, with more than 34,877 tonnes of goods passing through the airport in October, 2019.
