Cyberattack costs Møller-Mærsk

August 16 - The ceo of A.P. Møller-Mærsk, Søren Skou, has put a dollar value on the impact of the cyberattack that hit the company at the end of June 2017.

As A.P. Møller-Mærsk issued its second quarter 2017 results, Skou said: "In the last week of the quarter we were hit by a cyberattack, which mainly impacted Maersk Line, APM Terminals and Damco. Business volumes were negatively affected for a couple of weeks in July and as a consequence, our Q3 results will be impacted. We expect that the cyberattack will impact results negatively by USD200-300 million."

Maersk was one of the most high-profile companies to be affected by the malware, Petya.

A.P. Møller-Mærsk reported an underlying profit of USD389 million for the second quarter of 2017, up from USD134 million over the same period of 2016. However, post-tax impairments apportioned to Maersk Tankers and APM Terminals, totalling USD732 million, contributed to an overall loss of USD264 million.
