Multipurpose rates continue to increase

The multipurpose shipping sector has seen a further rise in time charter rates over the last month, according to the latest data from shipbroker Toepfer Transport.

The findings, published in the company's latest multipurpose time charter index (TMI), shows that the average daily time charter rate for a 12,500 dwt / F-type heavy lift vessel increased by a further USD229 between March 22 and April 22, 2018 to reach USD7,185. This also represents an increase of USD1,025 on the rate of USD6,160 recorded by the index in April 2017.

Toepfer's monthly TMI index is based on six to 12-month time charter rates and is compiled using data obtained from operators, owners and brokers.
