G2 Ocean to go live

April 24 - The joint venture between Gearbulk and Grieg Star - G2 Ocean - will begin operations on May 1, 2017.

HLPFI reported in October 2016 (http://www.heavyliftpfi.com/news/grieg-star-joins-forces-with-gearbulk.html) that the two shipping lines intended to enter into a joint venture to combine the companies' resources and expertise, as well as their combined fleet of open hatch, semi open hatch and conventional bulk vessels.

Headquartered in Bergen, Norway, G2 Ocean will be represented in 16 countries and operate approximately 130 ships. According to G2 Ocean, most of the new venture's offices will be staffed by personnel from Grieg Star and Gearbulk.

Three vice presidents have been named to lead the open hatch business: Carla Pontes will head up the South America trades from Rio de Janeiro, Simon Baker will lead the Pacific trades from Singapore, and Annette Thuen Hansen will manage the Europe and North America.

Petter Mowinckel has been named vice president for conventional bulk, while Terje Winther has been appointed to lead operations. Stephan Bergamin has been chosen to lead the finance department, while Knut Langeland become vice president for shared services.
