Jumbo has been awarded the installation contract for Shell's deepwater Vito development in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Vito development is located in the Mississippi Canyon, approximately 150 miles (241.4 km) south of New Orleans, in a water depth of more than 4,000 ft (1,219.2 m).
Jumbo's installation contract involves the initial pre-lay of the mooring system as well as the subsequent tow and hook-up of the floating production storage (FPS) platform.
Roddy Lafontaine, vice president - offshore at Jumbo, said: "It is the first time Jumbo and Shell will work directly together in the US deepwater Gulf of Mexico and our engineers are already working on the detailed plans so we can perform a reliable, smart and efficient execution.''
Meanwhile, Jumbo Offshore has transported and installed the mooring system for the Moheshkhali floating LNG import terminal in the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh, on behalf of Geocean.
Jumbo was contracted to transport and install the mooring system for the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) for Moheshkhali project. This involved installing eight suction piles/anchors, as well as a pipeline end terminal (PLEM), using the heavy lift J-Class vessel, Jumbo Javelin.
Tom Rijnders, project manager at Jumbo, said: "Conditions on this project were at times challenging due to strong currents and poor visibility, however, the crew on board managed to perform outstandingly with a lot of ingenuity and persistence to complete the project within specifications."
The Moheshkhali floating LNG import terminal will include a FSRU, a subsea buoy system and a subsea pipeline, which will connect the terminal to an onshore pipeline system.
