SAAM acquires shares in Intertug 

Sociedad Matriz SAAM has acquired a 70 percent stake in Intertug, a towage operator in Colombia, Mexico and Central America. 

Intertug has more than 25 years of experience providing harbour towage, offshore and special services. Its 25-vessel fleet logs more than 18,000 manoeuvres a year, generating around USD44 million in towage service revenue annually, said SAAM

“The partnership with Intertug allows us to enter Colombia, one of the fastest-growing economies in Latin America, and to reinforce our presence in Mexico and Central America,” added SAAM’s ceo, Macario Valdés.

The operations will be integrated with SAAM Towage, which SAAM took over in October 2019 after acquiring Boskalis’ shares in the joint venture

The agreement with Intertug is subject to approval from regulatory authorities.

Meanwhile, SAAM Huasteca, a newbuild tug manufactured by Damen, has left the Vietnamese shipyard Damen Song Cam and is on route for delivery in Mexico, where it will provide harbour services at the port of Veracruz. 

The ASD Tug 2813 was loaded onboard the multipurpose ship BBC Vesuvius and will arrive in Veracruz in a few weeks time.
