Stricter enforcement against pirates in Straits of Malacca

January 13 - The Royal Malaysian Navy is to place more emphasis on security in the Straits of Malacca this year, in anticipation of a rise in pirate activity expected to arise from the global economic crisis.

The RMN will work closely with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and bring back a ship currently on patrol in the Gulf of Aden and work closely with counterparts in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.
