May 12 - Multipurpose carriers AAL and Peter D

Across a number of key trade routes between Asia, Europe and the Americas, the two carriers will deploy and jointly represent a fleet of 26 multipurpose heavy lift vessels and provide tailor-made tramp and project solutions to industry sectors.

The combined fleet of owned and chartered-in tonnage features seven modern classes of multipurpose heavy lift vessels, ranging from 12,000 dwt to 31,000 dwt.

The fleet of 26 vessels will consist of a combination of A-Class, S-Class, T-Class and G-Class ships from AAL's fleet, with lifting capacities ranging from 120 to 700 tonnes; as well as F-Class, M-Class and C-Class vessels from Peter Döhle's fleet, with lifting capacities ranging from 120 to 480 tonnes.

Peter Döhle told HLPFI that the vessels being deployed are ex-Beluga ships.

"Both fleets of multipurpose heavy lift vessels perfectly complement each other and our proposed fleet mix of seven classes of large and small tonnage will deliver highly flexible, sustainable and efficient benefits for our customers and their projects," said Peter Döhle ceo Chistoph Döhle.

The companies will share operational responsibilities, with AAL handling operations east of the Suez Canal and in the Americas, while Peter Döhle oversees activity in Europe and Africa.

"With offices and staff located in strategic positions along key global trades, we will not only provide a seamless overall network…but also a local and time zone friendly service," added Peter Döhle's general manager John Jensen.

AAL and Peter Döhle stressed that they will remain independent of each other, with separate ownership, operations and identities.

Namir Khanbabi, managing director of AAL's tramp and projects division, concluded: "In a market where competition has been consolidated into larger operating entities, we and our customers stand to benefit immensely from economies of scale, a far greater reach within the market place and no risk of losing individual customer focus."
