March 29 - ALE's branch in Iraq has been awarded a heavy lifting and transport contract for the Karbala refinery project in the Middle Eastern nation.

The contract involves the hire of around 50 crawler, rough terrain and mobile cranes, the heavy lift operations, and the transport of around 45 oversize units weighing up to 250 tonnes each.

The oil refinery project in the southern Karbala province of Iraq has already commenced, with each part of ALE's contract lasting between one and three years, according to the UK headquartered heavy lifting and specialised transport provider.

On its scheduled opening in 2019, the facility will have a capacity of 140,000 barrels of crude oil per day. A number of EPC companies are taking part in the project, including Technip, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, GS Engineering & Construction and SK Engineering & Construction.
