November 25 - Arkon Shipping and Projects has purchased the multipurpose heavy lift vessel Lena from SAL and will rename her, Lena J.

The 1998-built vessel is now performing a voyage back to Europe where she will be open for further employment from the beginning of January.

Lena J is a Sietas type-161 with her bridge to the ship's fore, equipped with two cranes, each of 275 tonnes capacity and combinable to 550 tonnes; plus a 150-tonne capacity crane. She has a top speed of 20 knots.

Based in Haren, Germany, the shipping line also confirmed that steel cutting for the first of five Ecolift 500-type is expected mid-December. The 12,500 dwt vessels are fitted with two cranes, each with a lift capacity of 250 tonnes, combinable to 500 tonnes.

Thomas Cord, the company's managing shareholder has confirmed that the line will tramp 13 of its heavy lift vessels and is building up its organisation, network and commercial agencies.

Arkon Shipping's fleet currently consists of 164 vessels.
