July 16 - UK heavy haulage company Collett Transport has completed the transport of over 200 wind turbine components for SSE's 33-turbine Strathy North wind farm in the Scottish Highlands.

Wind turbine manufacturer Senvion contracted Collett to assist with the unloading of the components at Scotland's Scrabster port, plus storage and transport to the Sutherland site.

13 vessels called at the port of Scrabster from Cambeltown, as well as from Portugal and Germany, carrying a total of 99 blades, 99 tower sections, 33 hubs and 33 nacelles.

Collett, which stationed a team in Scotland for the duration of the project, explained that the operation was particularly challenging due to the 16-week deadline for all deliveries. With three deliveries planned per day, the entire operation involved seven tractor units and 18 trailers.

As a result of the successful transport project, the 33 turbines at Strathy North are now under the final stages of construction and are expected to be operational by the end of 2015.
