December 1 - German crane company Hüffermann Krandienst has used a Liebherr LTM 1500-8.1 mobile crane to install a refurbished gas flare pipe at the ExxonMobil natural gas treatment plant in Grossenkneten.

In addition to the eight-axle LTM 1500-8.1 crane, which has a lifting capacity of 500 tonnes, two additional mobile cranes were used for the setup and adjustment work.

Hüffermann was also responsible for dismantling the 45-year-old flare pipe ready for refurbishment at the plant, before preparing for the installation of the restored unit.

In order to complete the job safely, a large area around the site was cordoned off and the capacity of the plant was reduced, said Liebherr.

Hüffermann used the LTM 1500-8.1, which was assembled with a hook height of 100 m, and an LTM 1250-5.1 to lift the 22 m long pipe off a low loader, before turning it upright, fixing several parts to the pipe and lifting the unit to a height of around 60 m for installation.

The team also installed the 2.8-tonne flare head on top of the pipe to finish the job.
