August 16 - Today's loading of six metro cars onboard Hapag Lloyd's container ship Cerinthus at the port of Salerno, Italy, marks the first in a series of shipments that will see the shipping line carry a total of 42 trains consisting of 252 metro cars fr

From Callao, each metro car will be transported to the capital Lima using low-loader trucks. The modern, driverless trains, with a total value of around USD0.5 billion, have been built in Italy by Hitachi Rail Italy and are destined for the newly constructed Line 2 in the Peruvian capital.

The cars, each measuring 17.6 m in length and weighing 35 tonnes, were loaded onto the ship via special cranes.

"Hapag-Lloyd has decades of experience in transporting out-of-gauge goods. Once again, we have now been able to prove our expertise with this very complex and intricate project," claims Thorsten Haeser, chief commercial officer at Hapag-Lloyd.
