RRS skids to success

Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has transported a 25-tonne principal supply point (PSP) for Network Rail's upgrade project at Copley Village, UK.

Electrical company Kent Group (UK) contracted RRS to deliver the PSP, which measured 14.6 m x 3 m x 3.1 m, so that Siemens could execute a critical phase of the project.

RRS utilised a Volvo three-axle tractor unit with a Nooteboom four-axle extendable semi low loader to transport the component. According to RRS, the tractor and trailer combination was selected to keep the overall length of the vehicles as short as possible.

Once on site, the PSP was jacked up and unloaded from the trailer using four jacks and RRS' synchronous power pack. RRS explained that due to the close proximity of power lines to the final position, it was not possible to use a mobile crane to unload the unit.

A 300-tonne capacity Hydra-Slide HT300 hydraulic skidding system was subsequently used to move the PSP into position alongside the railway. The unit was then jacked up so tracks could be removed prior to final lowering into position.
