September 11 - Jumbo has been awarded a pipelaying contract by Malaysian contractor, Sigur Ros, to oversee transportation and installation of 126 gravity anchor spreads.

Project management and engineering will be carried out by Jumbo, which will undertake collection of the materials at the port of Mersin Tasucu Seka in Turkey, then transportation to the offshore location and installation.

The materials will be loaded on board using the two 900-tonne mast cranes on Jumbo's HLV Fairplayer, one of which will oversee the deployment of the buoy and tensioning of the tether wire, whilst the other lowers the anchor. Both cranes will be equipped with an integrated deep water winch system allowing installation without the need for offshore hand over. 14 km of crane wire will be applied to the winch, which can carry out installations to water depths of up to 3,000 m.

The anchor spreads will consist of a 230-tonne gravity anchor; tether wires, measuring 116 mm in diameter and cut to varying lengths of up to 1,400 m, to match water depths along the pipeline's route; plus subsea buoys, 8 m in length, 3 m in diameter and weighing 17 tonnes each.

They will be positioned to moor a pipeline with a 1,600 mm diameter running 80 km from Turkey to Northern Cyprus, which will be suspended in spans of about 500m, floating at a depth of approximately 250 m.
