November 10 - Deggendorf based Kran Saller has invested in a 750-tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1750-9.1 crane, which is being put to use at the Berngerode wind farm in Germany.

The crane has been used at the wind farm to erect concrete towers, measuring up to 89 m high, for twelve GE-manufactured 2.5 MW wind turbines.

For this job the crane was equipped with a Y-guying system and a 35 m luffing jib. A Liebherr LR 1600/2 crawler crane then installed the sections of the steel tubular tower up to the hub height of 139 m, the nacelle, the hub and blades.

The heaviest parts of the turbines were the foundation rings, which weighed in at almost 80 tonnes each. Although the adapters used to connect to the steel tubular tower segments were considerably lighter at 55 tonnes, they had to be hoisted to a height of 89 m by the LTM 1750-9.1.

"The LTM 1750-9.1 from Liebherr is the only crane in this load capacity class that can erect the concrete towers for Max Bögl towers," claimed Sascha Wolf, project planner at Kran Saller.

Kran Saller's LTM 1750-9.1, which is the largest crane in the company's fleet, will now go straight to the Hohenstein wind farm near Wiesbaden to erect three more wind turbines.
