February 14 - A Liebherr LTM 1090-4.1 mobile crane has been used to install a sluice gate in the Aggertal dam wall, 50 km to the east of Cologne, Germany.

The sluice gate, which had previously been removed and refurbished, had to be reinstalled at a water depth of 20 m, at around half the height of the dam.

The 11-tonne load had to be handled with half of the crane outriggers due to the narrow area available. With a clearance of 2 mm between the sluice gate and the vertical rails mounted on the dam wall, the installation of the gate demanded absolute precision from the crane and the driver, says Liebherr.

Ley Krane, the crane contractor who operated the 90-tonne capacity crane for the project, has a fleet of 12 mobile cranes, the largest being the LTM 1500-8.1 and almost all of which bear the Liebherr brand, says the crane manufacturer.

According to Liebherr, Ley Krane will be one of the first companies to receive the 450-tonne capacity LTM 1450-8.1, which is due to be launched later this year.
