August 8 - Mammoet has utilised three of its biggest cranes in its global fleet - the PTC 50, PTC 35 and the PTC 140 - for the construction of Petronas' Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Malaysia.

Since 2016, Mammoet's team and 35 cranes have been on site in Pengerang, Johor, for the construction of the PIC - a USD27 billion project that includes the refinery and petrochemical integrated development (RAPID) complex, covering 2,525 ha.

For the installation of the oversized columns, the largest of which is 1,809 tons (1,641 tonnes) and 121 m in height, Mammoet utilised the PTC 50, 35 and 140 ring cranes.

According to Mammoet, this is the first time that three of its PTC type cranes have operated on one site at the same time. Together they offer a lifting capacity of 10,000 tons (9,071.8 tonnes).

The PTC cranes, which are able to turn 360 degrees, are built on a ring track and have been designed to combine a wide reach and high capacity on a small footprint.

The PIC is expected to be operational by 2019.
