August 6 - Modulift has supplied 27 spreader beams and other below-the-hook equipment to oil and gas specialist Alderley for the Shah Deniz Stage 2 BP project in Azerbaijan.

The spreader beams, which range in capacity from 5 to 100 tonnes and spans from 1.5 m to 10 m, will be used for lifting skids.

As part of the project, Alderley will build an export gas metering system at its UK facility.

Measuring 39.7 m x 14.7 m x 9.3 m and weighing 420 tonnes, the gas export system will be broken into seven skids for shipment to Shah Deniz Stage 2, which is located approximately 90 km offshore in the Azerbaijan sector of the south Caspian Sea.

The spreaders will be used during the transport and installation of the skids, in conjunction with a crane to lift them into position.

Anthony Culshaw, senior design engineer at Modulift, explained the importance of Alderley coming to the company at a very early stage in the project.

"We had the chance to visit the site and see the equipment whilst it was still in fabrication. This is vital as it can give us an insight into any potential problems or extra requirements for the lifts. Due to this early involvement we were able to design the lifting rigs from the ground up," he said.
