February 24 - The first in a series of six multipurpose ecobox-design vessels - Nordana Sky - has been launched by the Ferus Smit Shipyard in Leer, Germany.
The 10,500 dwt vessel, which has an overall length of 122.5 m, will be delivered to Dutch shipowner Symphony Shipping, before being chartered out to Danish shipping company Nordana.
Ferus Smit says that the ecobox-design vessel is characterised by its flexibility of loading, combined with its economical performance.
Nordana Sky features a large box-shaped hold, as well as a large loading floor area for project cargoes, complete with movable tweendeck. The vessel also has two 80-tonne capacity cranes.
Moreover, said Ferus Smit, the deckhouse is placed on the foreship for better protection of the deck cargo, while also allowing oversize units to be loaded over the stern. In addition, the vessel can sail in all weather conditions without main deck hatches, meaning that it can carry project cargoes without height restrictions.
