September 25 = Following Germany-based Harren and Partner's acquisition of SAL Heavy Lift, which was previously owned by Japan's “K” Line, the heavy lift carrier will reflag six of its vessels to the German flag.

The reflagging began last week on September 22 with the heavy lift vessel Svenja, and Trina, Anne-Sofie, Regine, Maria and Wiebke will follow soon, says SAL. The vessels were previously under the Antigua and Barbuda flag.

"The German flag stands for quality, safety and compliance, and these are core values in SAL," said Sebastian Westphal, corporate director ship management at SAL.

"It was a logical consequence: a German family owned business with German built vessels, operated by many German officers, and now provided by all the advantages of a German Flag," explained Toshio Yamazaki, ceo of SAL.

The reflagging process will be handled by the German Social Accident Insurance Institution for Commercial Transport, Postal Logistics and Telecommunication (BG Verkehr) and DNV GL.
