December 11 - Maxim Crane Works has used two 400-tonne capacity Grove GMK6400 cranes to lift a 70-tonne vessel at an energy plant in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Manitowoc Cranes explained that the most challenging part of the lift was manoeuvring the vessel from its north-south position into an east-west position in order to lower the unit through a roof hatch.

To facilitate the tandem lift, Maxim used a 90-tonne capacity lifting beam with a centre lug that acted as a swivel to rotate the vessel when positioned over the roof hatch.

The lift took about a day to complete. Maxim will repeat this operation in January 2016 to install another similar vessel at the Ohio facility.
